The institute’s library is open to the public during institute opening hours. Books, DVDs, CDs and CD-ROMs can be borrowed free of charge for a period of 4 weeks (books) and/or 2 weeks (DVDs, CDs, CD-ROMs). Reference works and magazines cannot be borrowed.
The library comprises roughly 4,000 volumes, mainly in German, but also in Finnish, Swedish and English. The emphasis is on fiction, including German translations of Finnish literature (approx. 450 novels). All books are sorted using Finnish classification systems, i.e. according to topics in 10 main areas (cf. classification). More than 60 newspapers and magazines (cf. list of newspapers and magazines) are available for reading at the Finnish Institute.
You can download a list of all of our volumes through the following link to check which books and other publications we have.
In addition, the Finnish Institute has approximately 100 DVDs and 750 CDs with a focus on classical music composed by Finnish composers/artists as well as contemporary and folk music.
